Your Clinic for Alzheimer’s and Dementia Rehabilitation – with Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS®)

A dementia or Alzheimer’s diagnosis is life-changing – both for the sufferer and for their family members. Daily tasks become harder, memories become blurred, and independence is lost piece by piece. Specialist dementia rehabilitation offers support to retain existing skills for as long as possible. It helps to alleviate symptoms and to give family members respite. Here at our clinic for Alzheimer’s and dementia rehabilitation, we use state-of-the-art methods such as transcranial pulse stimulation (TPS®) to help with this.

What do the terms dementia and Alzheimer’s mean?

Dementia is an umbrella term for conditions in which memory, orientation, and other mental abilities decline. The most common form is Alzheimer’s disease. The causes are most commonly changes in the brain which damage nerve cells and destroy connections between them. This causes sufferers to experience memory problems, speech difficulties, disorientation, and changes in behavior.

The importance of dementia care

Targeted rehabilitation for dementia starts right here at our memory care center: inpatient dementia rehabilitation can’t stop the progression of the disease but it helps to retain skills for longer, promote everyday independence, and improve quality of life.

Dementia care also provides respite for relatives: on the one hand through advice, education, and shared strategies for everyday life. On the other hand, it provides practical help, as relatives gain time to relax and recuperate themselves, safe in the knowledge that their loved one is in good hands.

Alzheimer’s and dementia care and treatments

Our specialist dementia clinic combines medical, psychosocial, and activating approaches with innovative methods such as transcranial pulse stimulation.

Medical rehabilitation

Doctors and therapists monitor health, adapt medication, and handle comorbidities. This creates a basis for a stable physical condition.

Transcranial pulse stimulation (TPS®)

Transcranial pulse stimulation (TPS®) is an innovative therapy which we use in mild to moderate cases of Alzheimer’s and dementia.  TPS therapy is a so-called neuromodulation, which works transcranially, or “through the skull”.

A “NEUROLITH®” device sends ultrasonic pulses through the skull into the regions of the brain typically affected by Alzheimer’s. The shock waves stimulate the tissue and promote blood circulation. This can stimulate regeneration of nerve tissue which in turn can support cognitive functions such as memory, orientation, and thinking.

A TPS treatment takes around 45 minutes. A full course of dementia treatments comprises six sessions in two weeks. Studies show that transcranial pulse stimulation can bring about cognitive improvements shortly after use with the effects lasting for three months or more. Subsequent top-up treatments can further consolidate the success of the therapy.

Psychosocial support at our dementia clinic

Conversations with psychologists, consultations with relatives, and group services strengthen emotional resilience and provide guidance for everyday life with the disease.

Activation therapies

Music, movement, creative therapies, and memory loss treatment promote self-awareness, orientation, and social interactions. These all contribute to retaining everyday skills for longer.

Recommended duration of stay at our dementia clinic and memory care center

For people with dementia, we recommend a four-week treatment program. The duration may be adjusted depending on the individual’s medical history and specific situation.
