A diagnosis of multiple sclerosis turns your world upside down. For many sufferers it comes with worries and insecurity. However, modern therapies and targeted rehabilitation can help you to retain quality of life and independence for as long as possible.

What is multiple sclerosis (MS)?

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic auto-immune disease of the central nervous system. Inflammation damages the nervous system and triggers various symptoms. In many cases, a combination of medicinal and non-medicinal therapies can significantly delay or even prevent progress of the disease. Disability can often be avoided if the patient is supported by specialist neurologists at an MS rehab center.

The importance of MS physical therapy

A specialist MS rehab center supports sufferers to improve their quality of life and retain everyday independence. Typical side effects such as chronic fatigue – i.e., a persistent high level of exhaustion which barely improves with rest – can be positively influenced with targeted therapies.

Aims of multiple sclerosis rehab

The most important goals of MS rehabilitation are:

  • to improve motor skills and cognition,
  • to improve continence problems,
  • to retain independence, and
  • to increase quality of life.

Even after just three weeks of rehabilitation, many MS patients demonstrate clear progress. They gain noticeably more everyday independence and report a new sense of confidence for the future.

“Everyone here always thinks in solutions rather than problems: A big issue for me are spasms, especially at night. They keep me up and I don’t get enough rest. I ended up extending my rehabilitation for two weeks in order to find a way to control them and to improve my sleep.”
